Since our 1997 report to the community, we have completed a study of our future opportunities as a public health care system. The conclusion was that our work for the community was best achieved by maintaining our public health care system in concert with the broad community.

The evaluation process included extensive community involvement that embraced our employees and unions, the business community, health and social service agencies, and those who had an interest in who we were, what we did and the important role we played in the quality of life for our country.

Our goals of fiscal stability for the county's health care agency; quality care that meets our commitment to vulnerable populations and the entire county; a business plan to ensure future success; and continued commitment to our valued employees were our focus. They served us well in determining our future directions and will be the focus of our efforts as we go forward.

The future public health care system which includes San Joaquin General Hospital, Mental Health Services, Office of Substance Abuse, Public Health Services, Emergency Medical Services and the Health Plan of San Joaquin will be there for those who need us the most and our programs will become the services of choice.

Imagine a community filled with health people. At San Joaquin County Health Care Services, we envision a quality of life never before experienced. We have an important dream. We are working hard to make the dream a reality. In our vision, all people will have ready access to health care. Their medical costs would be affordable and health promotion will be a way of life. As public health care leaders in this community, we take our role seriously and with a lot of confidence. We are innovators who strive to improve the health status of everyone in the community and together we can guarantee it!
